Spotify pre-saves
Fans save the release before it exists, and it appears in their library the moment it drops.
What happens#
A fan taps Pre-save on Spotify and approves access. Nothing appears in their library yet, because the release isn't out. On release day we add it for them automatically.
The point is timing. Saves that land in the first hours count toward the algorithmic push that decides whether a release gets picked up, and the fan hears it without having to remember anything.
Setting one up#
- 1 Create a link as normal Use the URL of any already-released track for now, or your artist page. You'll replace the target below.
- 2 Set the release date and time In Release date, pick when it goes live. Until then the page shows a countdown instead of service buttons.
- 3 Tick pre-save This turns the page into a pre-save rather than a plain coming-soon page.
- 4 Paste the Spotify address of the upcoming release Your distributor gives you this once the release is delivered and scheduled.
- 5 Share it the day you announce A pre-save collects for as long as it is up, so put it out when the announcement goes out, not the week of release.
Following as well as saving#
Also follow the artist is on by default. When a fan pre-saves, we follow your artist profile at the same time, which puts future releases into their Release Radar. It is one approval for the fan either way.
What happens on release day#
A background job runs regularly, notices the release time has passed, and adds the release to every fan who pre-saved. You don't have to be awake for it, and there's nothing to press.
Once a fan's save is complete we delete the access we were holding for them. We keep it only as long as it takes to do the job.
⚠ Don't schedule more than six months out
Fans can back out#
The confirmation screen has a Disconnect and delete link. It removes the pending pre-save and everything we hold for that fan. They can also remove us from their Spotify account settings at any time, which has the same effect.
Apple Music and others#
Spotify is the only pre-save provider at the moment. Apple Music requires a paid developer account and a different approval model, and is not live. If you need to cover both, use a coming-soon page with email capture and mail everyone on release day.
What you can see#
The link's stats page shows pre-saves as their own number alongside views and clicks, and the conversion funnel shows what share of visitors went through with it. Every pre-save also reports to your ad pixels as a conversion.
